Physical Education (PE)

Intent

At Springdale, we believe that a high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in leading healthy, active lifestyles. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. Our children will develop fundamental movement skills and learn how to apply these in different ways to enable them to imagine, believe and achieve.

The PE Curriculum at Springdale First School

At Springdale, children enjoy two PE lessons a week, one inside and one outside. Lessons cover a whole range of physical activities including indoor and outdoor games as well as gymnastics and dance. In 2017/18, we were proudly awarded the Bronze School Games Mark for our commitment to the development of competition across the school and into the community. Following this, in 2018/19, we were thrilled to be chosen to host Joe Wicks as part of his 'UK Schools HIIT Tour' and to be awarded the Gold School Games Mark for all our efforts in sport. In 2019/20, we were delighted to be recognised for our ongoing commitment and achievement in the School Games Programme and hope to achieve this again in 2020/21.

Sports ambassadors at Springdale First School

Sports ambassadors play a very important role at school – they motivate and inspire other pupils and are positive role models for sport and PE.

Our Sports ambassadors undertake play leading training where they learn how to be coaches to support positive play and learn fun games that they share with their peers.
