Where is Captain Tom?

In Autumn 1, children were tasked with the mission of finding Captain Tom, a pilot who crashed somewhere in the United Kingdom. To start this unit, we had our own 'plane crash' and had to build our own shelter in order to survive. We also learnt about how to keep safe if lost by staying in one place and waiting while someone found us.

In order to successfully find Captain Tom, children had to study different parts of the United Kingdom and compare and contrast them. They were looking at geographical features such as rivers, mountains, and land use. They also started to become familiar with some counties of England.

By using this knowledge, children narrowed down where Captain Tom was, and he was able to be successfully rescued.
